We are currently welcoming Expressions of Interest from experienced project professionals who are keen to contribute to the successful delivery of Council projects and may wish to be considered for a Project Lead position with Ōpōtiki District Council.
This role would suit someone who enjoys leading projects that deliver meaningful outcomes for our community, while working collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, iwi and hapū, and other stakeholders.
Key Aspects of the Role
Project Delivery & Leadership
- Lead the delivery of capital and operational projects from initiation through to handover
- Establish clear project baselines (scope, programme, budgets, risk, and resources)
- Implement and maintain a robust programme management framework
- Ensure projects are effectively closed out with handover to Asset Management and Operations teams
Performance, Reporting & Governance
- Monitor and report on project progress, risks, budgets, and resourcing
- Provide accurate, timely reports and insights to leadership
- Maintain compliant and well managed project documentation
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
Procurement & Financial Oversight
- Lead the development and implementation of compliant procurement processes
- Manage assigned budgets and ensure accurate financial reporting
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, contractors, consultants, iwi/hapū, and community stakeholders
- Provide expert advice on project delivery matters and opportunities
- Support communication, consultation, and engagement plans
What You May Bring
- Proven experience delivering complex projects, ideally within local government, infrastructure, or the public sector
- Strong capability in project planning, budgeting, risk management, and reporting
- Demonstrated experience managing contractors and consultants
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including working with community groups and elected officials
- Tertiary qualification in Project Management, Engineering, Planning, Public Administration, or related field
- Certification in PRINCE2, PMP, Agile or similar (highly desirable)
