Ōpōtiki District Council is seeking an Animal Control Officer to join our Strategy and Development Group. You will be a part of a team who is passionate about delivering on safety and compliance.
About the role:
As an Animal Control Officer, you will be a part of a team responsible for the effective monitoring and enforcement of the Dog Control Act, Council Policies & Procedures and District bylaws. You will strive to ensure the safety of the community through active monitoring and response for Animal Control enquiries.
Responsibilities include:
- Undertake patrols to detect any contravention of the Dog Control Act
- Maintaining accurate record within Council database
- Responding to complaints and carrying out investigations in a professional manner
- Enforcement of relevant Acts, Policies and Procedures
- Monitoring afterhours services
- Maintaining positive relationships with the community and stakeholders
What we’re looking for:
- Experience in a compliance role is an advantage
- Previous experience in handling animals is desirable
- Understanding and commitment to customer service
- High level of physical fitness
- Strong interpersonal skills
- An ability to work as a team member or alone with minimum supervision
- Strong organisational skills
- Some computing and technology skills
