Key outcomes from the Extra Ordinary Council meeting 20 August 2025
Currently Extra Ordinary meetings are not livestreamed.
Please note these are informal notes on the key outcomes from the meeting. The formal minutes and official record will be endorsed at the next council meeting.
Adoption of the 2024-2030 Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) - The Waste Minimisation Act 2008 requires a review of the WMMP every six years. Council consulted with the community about the draft plan in April / May this year. The WMMP sets the priorities for waste activities in the district for the coming six years, and ensures we are aligned with the national waste strategy, LTP objectives and community priorities. The adopted plan is now available on the website.
Local Water Done Well Adoption of the Water Services Delivery Plan – LWDW is the government’s approach to address long-standing water infrastructure challenges across New Zealand. Legislation requires Council to formally approve and submit a Water Services Delivery Plan (WSDP) to the Department of Internal Affairs by 3 September 2025. Council consulted with the community in May / June this year and in July voted to develop the WSDP on the basis of future service delivery being through an internal business unit whilst continuing to explore potential joint Water Service Organisation (WSO) with other councils.
This WSDP has been completed and was adopted by council to send to DIA by the 3 September deadline. You can read the final WSDP in the council papers.
