Minutes and Committees – Council endorsed or received the minutes of several meetings and committees including the April Council meeting, Risk and Assurance Committee meeting, Performance and Delivery Committee meeting, the Regional Transport Committee meeting and endorsed the draft minutes from the recent Coast Community Board meeting.

The minutes of the Regional Transport Committee opened more general discussion about transport issues across the wider Eastern Bay of Plenty and the importance of these region-wide fora to provide opportunities for inter-agency discussion.

Papers also included the regular reports from the CEO and Mayor.

Public submissions – no public submissions. The mayor referenced a submitter at the last council meeting about ‘CBD signage’ with an update expected soon.

Coastguard Ōpōtiki Building Lease – Ōpōtiki Wharf Reserve – Council voted to enter into a new lease for Coastguard Ōpōtiki on their existing premises located on Council reserve land adjacent to the Ōpōtiki Wharf for a term of 33 years with a right of renewal for a further 33 years. Councillors discussed the importance of the longer-term lease to provide the stability needed for the Coastguard so they can start work on securing funding / fundraising for the expansion of their facilities.

Waihau Bay Masterplan and Implementation Plan – Council endorsed the Waihau Bay Masterplan and Implementation Plan. This document will help guide future development in the Waihau Bay area, balancing tourism, community amenity, the environment, safety, and the enduring mana of the Te Whānau-ā Apanui hapū Te Whānau-a-Pararaki over Tamatari. Nomination of Tina Gedson for Endorsement as Alternate Local Civil Defence Controllor and Nomination of Endorsements for Peter Edwards as Recovery Manager and Annette Munday as Alternate Recovery Manager - The Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Act 2002 Section 30(1) requires the statutory appointment of these roles. They have been vacant for some time and these staff members have experience and training to step into these important civil defence duties.
