7 Steps to Perfect Household Waste Collection
1 - CANS CAN
You can recycle nearly all cans. Aluminium, steel, paint and aerosol. Just remember to EMPTY their contents and rinse clean.
TIP: NO ALUMINIUM FOILS AND THINGS MADE FROM FLAT SHEETS OF FOIL, LIKE FOOD TRAYS. ONLY MATERIAL THAT FITS WITHIN THE CRATE WILL BE COLLECTED.
2 - PLASTIC
Plastic bottles, plastic bags and containers with a recycling symbol can be recycled. Look for the symbol on the bottom.
TIP: MOST PLASTIC BOTTLES CAN BE RECYCLED.LIDS OFF AND CLEAN PLEASE.NO POLYSTYRENE, CLING WRAP OR MEAT TRAYS. ONLY MATERIAL THAT FITS WITHIN THE CRATE WILL BE COLLECTED.
3 - PAPER TRAIL
Recycle clean newspapers, magazines, junk mail and cardboard. Remember to flatten all boxes and tie paper.
TIP: ONLY MATERIAL THAT FITS WITHIN THE CRATE WILL BE COLLECTED.
4 - A TOUCH OF GLASS
You can recycle bottles and jars, but be sure to remove the tops and give them a good rinse.
TIP: NO WINDOW GLASS. ONLY MATERIAL THAT FITS WITHIN THE CRATE WILL BE COLLECTED.
5 - PACKING YOUR BIN FOR THE WIND
Please make sure your recyclables don't get blown around your street.
TIP: STACK YOUR HEAVIER CRATE ON TOP E.G. TIN CRATE ON PAPER CRATE AND GLASS CRATE ON PLASTIC CRATE.
6 - ONE MORE LOOK
Can it be:
- Used around the house?
The more you can keep out of the landfill, the better off we'll all be.
7 - BIN IT
When you've sorted everything else out, put your residual rubbish into the red lidded refuse bin.
TIP: WRAP ANY SHARP OBJECTS SO THEY DON'T INJURE YOUR COLLECTOR. ONLY WASTE THAT FITS INSIDE THE BIN WITH THE LID CLOSED WILL BE COLLECTED.
