A crowd gathered at the Ōpōtiki i-SITE at 6:30am this morning for the blessing of the Kete for Ōpōtiki by artist Anna Gedson. Our Deputy Mayor and Ōpōtiki Creative Communities scheme committee member, Lyn Riesterer, welcomed guests followed by a blessing of the kete by Chip Apanui. Anna thanked everyone that had been involved in the project and Creative Communities Scheme Ōpōtiki district for funding part of the project and talked about what the kete meant to her and how it symbolises much in our community. As the sun rose, light beams struck the kete turning it a dazzling golden colour.
