We are reviewing our joint Eastern Bay of Plenty Local Alcohol Policy and want to hear your views on our proposals. This is a joint policy between Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki District Councils and provides direction on how, when and where alcohol can be sold to try and limit the harm that it causes our community.
Local Alcohol Policies are required to be reviewed very six years. Our policy was last reviewed and adopted in 2016. Our current LAP is available here.
Feedback on the draft policy is open from 8am Monday 27th March to 5pm Friday 28th April. Your feedback will be provided to a Hearings Panel representing the three councils and will help to inform the final Local Alcohol Policy. You can choose whether you would like to present to this hearings panel when you complete your submission.
You can read more about the changes we have proposed in the draft Local Alcohol Policy, in the Statement of Proposal, and read more about alcohol in our districts in the Research Report.
Because this is a combined Eastern Bay policy, feedback will be collated from all three districts so the link below will take you to Kōrero Mai, hosted by Whakatāne District Council. Further information and the online submission form will be available there soon.
