Ōpōtiki District Council received an application from Kaiaio Irrigation Limited for the following resource consent reference no. 2022-15: The submission period has now closed.
Site Addresses: Multiple parcels from northern side of the Kereu River to south of Waikanae Stream, Te Kaha.

Project Description: Construction and operation of the Kaiaio Irrigation Scheme: Network Utility. The components of the irrigation scheme proposal which require resource consent from Ōpōtiki District Council are:
- Installation of water supply pipeline and associated components both above and below ground.
- Installation of sheds, the electrical supply and transformer, and associated control cabinet at the water intake site on the northern-eastern side of the Kereu River bridge.
- Works, including installation of a water reservoir tank within an Outstanding Natural Landscape (ONL1 – Ikawhenua Forest and Urewera Forest).
- Earthworks associated with installation of the pipeline, reservoir access road, reservoir tank site and on the fill site. Approximately 8,018 m3 of cut/fill will be undertaken constructing the access road and reservoir platform. Approximately 5,500 m3 of cut will be relocated to the fill site.
- Disturbance of indigenous vegetation for reservoir access road, reservoir tank site, gravity feed pipeline, fill site, installation of security fence at water intake site, and six stream crossings.
Note that the water take from the Kereu River has already been consented by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.
The application includes an Assessment of Environmental Effects. The application may be inspected at the Main Office of the Ōpōtiki District Council, 108 St John Street, Ōpōtiki, during normal office hours. The application is available on the Council’s website www.odc.govt.nz.

Any person was able to make a submission on the application, but a person who is a trade competitor of the applicant may do so only if that person is directly affected by an effect of the activity to which the application relates that—
(a) adversely affects the environment; and (b) does not relate to trade competition or the effects of trade competition.
Submissions could be made by sending a written or electronic submission to Ōpōtiki District Council at PO Box 44 Ōpōtiki 3162 or by email to info@odc.govt.nz. The submissions were required on form 13. Copies of the form were available from Ōpōtiki District Council and on the Council’s website using the Submission on resource consent application form PDF.
