We are setting up all sorts of fun activities and events for you to enjoy on your visit to Opotiki.  These are just some of the ways you can unplug and have fun without electronics.

Activities….. 

Clear as Mud Mega Mud Slide
Come take the plunge on the countries longest, fastest, most twisty, purpose built mud slide then wash off in the specially designed Super Shower.

High Tide Experiences LTD
A host of outdoor adventure activities available including river tubing, coasteering and surf casting. All safety equipment supplied, and BBQ included with some activities.

Ready Rock Horse Treks

Glow Worm Night Trail
An easy 10 minute bush walk leads you to the glow worm grotto which humbly boasts an awesome night time display.

Mahi Kai Eeling and Floundering trips
Feel the excitement and rush of night time eeling and catching delicious flounder for your dinner. Learn where the best fishing and eeling spots in the district are as your guides take you on an adventure you will never forget.

Coast and Motu Road Tours
Jump on board the 23 seater fun bus and enjoy scenic and historic tours of the Motu Road and coast day trips to Te Kaha. Tours take around 4-5 hours and include a BBQ lunch amongst some of New Zealand’s most beautiful scenery.
Tours run twice per week and bookings are essential.

Mud Massages at the mudslide
Therapeutic massages in kawakawa infused mud. Relax and soak in a private heated kawakawa infused mud bath then treat yourself to a therapeutic massage while the kids are kept occupied on the mud slide. Perfect….

Beach Sleep Out
While parents enjoy a quiet night alone their kids will be out on the beach enjoying stories around the camp-fire, toasted marshmallows and fun activities, and the unforgettable experience of sleeping under the stars.
Recommended for ages 8-12. Limited places so book early!

Scary Night Out
Prepare yourself for a scary night as you navigate your way through the freighting Hukutai Burma Trail. Enjoy a hot drink and a good laugh afterwards.

Mud Slide Opening
The countries longest slipperiest purpose built mud slide. Skid your way down 90 meters of exhilarating fun then wash off in the Super Shower. Beach view road opposite Hukuwai Beach.

Inter-Camp Ground Tug of War Competition
Enter your team and take on the other campgrounds or just come along to support and be part of the excitement.

Great Opotiki Riddle Rally
Get a car load of mates together and enter the race. Solve clues, complete tasks and test out your team work skills as you bumble your way around Opotiki to become the ultimate Riddle Rally Team

Opotiki Rodeo.
One of the countries largest and best rodeos. Bucking, broncos, bull riding, calf roping, food, entertainment and much more.

Waiotahi Beach Sculpting Competition
Nothing better than a day at the beach to recover from New Years Eve and keep the kids occupied. Enter a team in the Beach Sculpting competition and get creative. $5 team  starts at 10am

Friday Night Fun Golf
Head out to the Opotiki Golf Club and join in the fun golf and activities evening. Fun for both experienced an non experienced golfers.

Country Hall Dance (8 till late)
The incredibly talented Jan Owls Band is putting on good old fashioned country hall dance with songs we all know and love. So get your dancing shoes on and prepare yourself for a good night out. Bring a plate along for supper and B.Y.O alcohol.

Hukuwai Beach Horse Races
Feel the thunder of the hooves as the horses race along the stunning Hikuwai  beach

Raft Race
Construct and race your teams raft down the Waioweka river. There are different divisions and the race is open to everyone. Materials are available on the day for those who need them to construct their raft.

Pantomime: The Lusty Ramp
A hilarious comedy written by local playwright Malcolm Ballard and Featuring the stunning talent of Opotiki actors, The Lusty Ramp is a play for all ages and a great example of good old fashioned family fun. 6pm @ 280 Ohiwa Harbour Road. Entry by donation

People purchase their floating fish then decorate them. Everyone will lunge their fish into the Otara river at the same time. The first 2 fish are the winners and will enjoy a host of activities as they  become OpotikiCoast Fun Unplugged King/s and or Queen/s for the day

A fun day open to everyone to give lawn bowls a go. Starts at 2pm at the Opotiki Bowls club, King Street

Country Music Concert
Twin rivers Country Music Club will be putting on a performance for your enjoyment at the Senior Citizens Hall. Come along and be entertained, enjoy the music and get up and have a boogie.

Opotiki River Race
3km swimming race from the Opotiki Wharf to the sandbar. Fundraising event for the Opotiki Surf Life Saving Club. 5 trophies up for grabs with junior (under 16) and senior divisions. All participants receive a certificate with their time. Race starts 10am, meet on the grass area next to the Coast Guard Building at the Wharf. Prize giving and BBQ to follow.
