Planning Consents
Planning consents are administered under the provisions of the Resource Management Act and District Plan and usually relate to land subdivision or activities which require management for a particular reason. Examples of the latter include the need to maintain the productive use of fertile rural land or protect natural vegetation or other heritage features. The Council always tries to adopt a balanced approach which encourages sustainable development while minimising negative impacts on the environment and/or the community.

Building Consents
Building consents are administered according to the requirements of the Building Code, and together with the inspections which are undertaken during each project, aim to ensure that all construction undertaken in the District is safe and completed to a satisfactory standard.
